Happy Easter to those celebrating
Perhaps a good time for a song about life and death
Salsa dura (hard salsa) from Colombia
1972
Fruko started his career at 15 after being kicked out of school for fighting
He and his band went to NY in 1968, picked up the nuyorican sound, and brought it back to Medellin, Cali, and Bogota
Piper Pimienta is on vocals here
Singing that when he dies, he doesn’t want tears and Lamentations
But instead, a huge party where everyone is drinking aguardiente, dancing salsa, and generally gozando (enjoying)
And everyone toasting “a la memoria del muerto.”. To the memory of the deceased.
