Swamped with work, short one tonight
Hey Max, you’re welcome
A previous dose touched on King Tubby, one of the pioneer giants of dub
In the 70s, he got together with producer Harry Mudie to lay down some incredible collabos
Including the legendary “Dub Conferences”
Mudie was the first to introduce strings into reggae
Having gone to England to study in the late 60s
The Dub Conference albums were actually produced between Jamaica and the UK
With the strings being recorded in London, and the mixes happening at King Tubbys studio in Kingston
One can imagine the late-night creative sessions as Tubbys effects met Mudie’s strings and electronics study
Choosing which cut to feature is a fool’s errand
The most well-known is probably Dub With A Difference
The difference in question being those strings

Strings as lush as the Blue Mountains mixed with the Tubbys’ reverb effects
And the most appropos for this setting would surely be the “Full Dose of Dub”

But you can’t top this, for my money dub’s high-water mark
Heavy duty all right
Turn the bass up to 11
