So Easy

Röyksopp

Another highly-valued piece of wax, owing to its peculiar history
Royksopp (just imagine in your head the umlaut over the first o, where it’s supposed to be) is a Norweigian electronic music duo
Their first album called Melody A.M. was released on 2002 on the British Wall of Sound label (I presume the name is a reference to Phil Spector’s production)
For a limited vinyl edition (I think 100 copies) they got Banksy to do an individual spray stencil on each cover
As with all things Banksy, who knows how much of this is farcical send-up
But between rare record aficionados and Banksy groupies, this one goes for 10 g’s
I once read someone say, well this is at least a chance to get an originnal Bansky without shelling out millions
I suppose so
So this is both eletronica and esoterica
And some high-society commodity fetishism-a
The track that leads off Melody A.M. is “So Easy”
4 million view on YouTube, I think the most of any daily dose featured yet!
Perhaps 10,000 of those views are folks curious about the $10,000 Banksy-backed release
The other 390,000 are looking for a lost SpongeBob commercial from their youth, apparently?
I don’t think I had a tv at that time (certainly had no cable!) so the Nickelodian nostalgia passes me by
Er, 3,990,000 views
It was my understanding that there would be no math
But the joint is cool, with a loop and vocal sample from another nordic concoction, the Swedish 60s group “Gals & Pals” performing a cover of Bacharach and David’s Blue on Blue (far more famously performed by Bobby Vinton)

Hence the slightly unusual pronunciation, esp of “Heartache on heartache” that leads to a lot of hilarious interpolations of So Easy’s vocals
I almost spelled it “interpellation” (a term common in ideology studies)
And guess what pops up as the first definition and example of the latter?
<<Interpellation is a process, a process in which we encounter our culture’s values and internalize them. Interpellation expresses the idea that an idea is not simply yours alone (such as “I like blue, I always have”) but rather an idea that has been presented to you for you to accept.>>
Maybe we all like Blue on Blue
Even if we can’t afford a Banksy
