Subsequent Finale

Churchill's- הצ'רצ'ילים

https://youtu.be/0fTAbJnSXxw

I remember an interview with DJ PNS (yeah, keep his name out your mouth) from the Molemen
Might have been in a Vinyl Exchange-type magazine or maybe on WHPK or WNUR
“These new kids” he said, with a sneer that came through the page (or the airwaves) “run up to me excited: ‘yo, check it out, I got this Israeli record!’
“And I’m like ‘Uh ok, I still got this Kool & the Gang record…”
You can keep digging for increasingly obscure nuggets, the tried and true classics remain where it’s at
As future Molemen collaborator Prime (who much later would defeat Rahm’s city council floorleader in a shocking upset to become 40th ward alderman!) said about rappers: “they keep tryna be different instead of tryna be dope”
Point well taken
On the OTHER hand, that different Israeli record could be pretty dope itself
To wit: The Churchill’s 1968 self-titled plate of psych
Wild and Peaceful is still better
Definitely cheaper!

?
But like malawach and zhug, “HaTsertselim” are a tasty sabra treat
This is my pick on the album, the most (middle) eastern-sounding, with the crazy mandolin
I would try to serve up the backstory but this guy’s already done it

Debka, with the narguila intro, certainly qualifies as dope, too
Hash, specifically

I can’t help but feel PNS’ eyes of contempt on this dose
But man cannot live by Kool and the Gang alone!

[post-script: It’s possible–probable, even–that the quote was from Panik, not PNS, but, you know, poetic license…]
