Up and Down

Manny Corchado

Since it’s late, going for one without a lot of backstory available
At least not any known to me
Manny Corchado was the leader of a Latin band in the late 60s
Who performed in New York
And put out one 45 on Decca in 67
Marty Sheller, Latin Soul heavyweight who worked for years with Sabu, Mongo and Fania all stars, on the arrangements
Boogaloo fire on both sides
Pow Wow, which starts off with a voice over by the “chief” talking about getting all the tribes together, firing up the peace pipe, and getting down

And the instrumental b-side, Chicken and Booze

There’s also a full length LP
Which features today’s dose, Up & Down
A little more Latin, and a little less Soul, than its more famous cousins from the 45
Corchado’s timbal syncopating on the congas (or are the congas syncopating on the timbal?)
Trumpet and conga solos bring the filth
One to get your heart rate up
