Very late night of poker = very light dose
Bonobo, dj moniker of Simon Green
Friends call him Si
I’m pretty sure I was put on this by Gilles Peterson, the legendary BBC Radio 1 dj
From 2006, on Ninja Tune
Class British label of Coldcut, Herbaliser, DJ Vadim
Many of the tracks on this Bonobo album feature Bajka, this one is my choice
Bajka’s dad was part of Embryo “the most electric of the Krautrock bands” which did long caravan tours around the globe. She was born during the extensive journey through India — in fact, it appears their tour lasted about 9 months, so….?
Via this travelling commune, she spent her childhood in Portugal and South Africa, among other places
She studied in Prague before moving to Germany
Green had a more stationary childhood – he grew up in Hampshire in the south of England
His parents were both musicians, though not professionally
And his dad was into folk
He was a 90s hip hop kid who branched out into soul jazz and rock via samples
A familiar story
His own music samples and draws from a broad array of sources
Though I think this album is live instrumentation, much of it played by himself
And Bajka has a bit of Badu to her
Like Positive K and LG (and Audio 2), a good combination!
